Mentors2Research

 – a catalyst for utilisation of research

The purpose of Mentors2Research (M2R) is to be a ”catalyst for utilisation” of academic research results.  The objective in the longer term is to increase and accelerate utilisation of research results from the academic world.

During the last 7 years, Chalmers has participated in IVA’s mentoring program for researchers. To strengthen the program further, we have started our own network, which is fully adapted to Chalmers' needs but still based on the methodology used by IVA. This allows us to create a mentoring program that enables increased utilisation and network building for the participating researchers.

The goals are to ensure that researchers increase their:

  • insights, interest and engagement to utilise their research results
  • personal networks in the business community
  • understanding how to identify their role in the process

M2R supports the personal development of the researchers. It creates the opportunity for researchers to have a bigger impact. Chalmers and its researchers gain by having researchers better able to succeed in utilisation in an increasingly complex global academic world.

Proven track record with handpicked mentors

The program has proven very successful at Chalmers since 2011 and is highly appreciated. For instance, on a scale 1-10, researchers gave a 9,2 grade point average in recommending the program to other researchers. Similarly, mentors gave an 8,9 grade point average in recommending business colleagues to accept an invitation to become a mentor.

One of the most important reasons for these high scores is a process to handpick business mentors based on each individual researcher’s needs and goals. The mentors and researchers typically meet in person about once per month. In addition to the individual meetings, there are frequent contacts between mentors and mentees as well as there are several regional meetings including a workshop with all mentors and researchers.

Alumni network

All researchers and mentors will also be a part of the Alumni Network on LinkedIn created within the program.
